After a series of preview dinners for the rich and somewhat famous, shiny Japanese restaurant Ryu opened in the Meatpacking District last week. This is reality TV star Scott Disick's first restaurant project, and here he's teamed up with Chris Reda of Griffin and Fatty Crew VP of operations Jesse Camac. The menu features shareable small and large plates arranged under headings like "snacks," "skewered," "tempura," "mains," and "raws."

Some of the big dishes include a wagyu rib eye steak, seared tuna with potato and spring onions, and scallops with ginger and rhubarb. To drink, there are Asian-influenced cocktails and punch bowls, plus bottle service (it's the MePa, don't forget). Also: the space features large photos of Japanese body art. Take a look around, and do send any early reports to the tipline.

Sunny Start To June Will Soon Turn To Rain Because the forecast kind of stinks, let's start with some fun climate stats! May was warmer and wetter than normal, ending a several month streak of dry weather but making it the fourteenth straight month with above average temperatures. The average temperature for the first five months of this year was 49.8 degrees, exactly a degree warmer than 1998, which is tied with 1990 and 1991 as the warmest years ever recorded in Central Park, and more than twelve degrees warmer than the chilly Jan-May of 1875 and 1888. If This Investing Thing Doesn’t Work Out, One Tudor Venture Employee Has A Future At Radio City

Earlier this week, we had a little chat about letting your hair down in the summer months, but not so much that you get a reputation among colleagues and/or law enforcement officials. For example, while you should definitely allow yourself to enjoy some adult beverages during leisurely outdoor lunches and cut out early to grab a few or more with coworkers you actually like, you don’t want to have so many drinks that you drive a car through a stranger’s house. To that end, while you should certainly feel comfortable getting up on a bar or table to dance like nobody’s watching, you might want to think about not getting up on table and (allegedly) destroying thousands of dollars in lighting fixtures while demonstrating a roundhouse kick.

The arraignment of Daniel J. MacKeigan, 39, of Hingham, Mass, on a single count of vandalizing property, was postponed. MacKeigaan was present in court for Monday’s hearing, but his attorney requested delay in the formal arraignment, and the assistant district attorney said he wanted time to possibly reconsider the severity of the charge against MacKeigan. MacKeigan was arrested at 1 a.m. early Sunday morning on Straight Wharf after allegedly destroying a $3,500 chandelier with a kick while standing on a table at the new Cru restaurant, in the former Ropewalk spot. The case will be back in court on June 18.

So, um, news today, not great, huh? So no surprise that stocks are down. It’s okay though, since the SEC has cooked up a cure: The Securities and Exchange Commission has approved two proposals submitted by the national securities exchanges and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) that are designed to address extraordinary volatility in…

Bloomberg: Lots Of Soda Bad But "One Doughnut’s Not Going To Hurt you" This morning, he appeared on the Today Show and host Matt Lauer tried to call him out on his support of National Doughnut Day and unveiling of one-foot-in-diameter doughnuts from Entenmann's. Lauer said, "It sounds ridiculous," to which Bloomberg replied, "C’mon, it doesn’t sound ridiculous. One doughnut’s not going to hurt you. In moderation, most things are O.K." [ more › ]

Two baby lemurs make Bronx Zoo debut

A pair of lemurs born earlier this spring have made their public debut in the Madagascar! exhibition area of The Bronx Zoo, the Wildlife Conservation Society announced today.

The new lemurs are of different species, but both are native to Madagascar. The Coquerel’s sifaka is listed as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, while the collared lemur species is listed as vulnerable. In the wild, populations of both sifaka and collared lemurs are in decline due to loss of suitable habitat, according to the WCS, which works in Madagascar to protect lemurs and other wildlife.

The Madagascar! exhibition in The Bronx Zoo is home to five species of lemurs plus other animals unique to the African island.

General admission to the Bronx Zoo costs $16 for adults, $14 for seniors and $12 for children ages 3 through 12. There is an additional $5 fee to enter the Congo Gorilla Forest. The zoo offers pay-what-you-wish admission every Wednesday.

A few months ago, Katie O'Donnell left Esca to work as the chef at Frankies 570 in the West Village. Now reps confirm that O'Donnell has left the restaurant, and that opening chef Ryan Bartlow is back in the kitchen. Bartlow has been working at sister establishment Francesca on the Lower East Side, and now he'll be overseeing both kitchens with the help of proprietors Frank Castronovo and Frank Falcinelli. No word yet on where O'Donnell is headed next, but apparently the split was amicable. Also, Andrew Kesselring, who worked as the GM the original Frankies in Brooklyn, is now at the West Village restaurant.

Brooklyn Nets Player Charges Friends $4.50 To Use His "Cool" Kitchen ATM Earlier this week, Brooklyn Nets forward DeShawn Stevenson tweeted a picture of him posing next to an ATM machine strategically positioned in his kitchen. A somewhat eccentric hipster basketball player with a personal ATM machine in his kitchen seemed odd enough—but thanks to TMZ, we now know he charges his friends $4.50 to use the machine. So he's a thrifty, somewhat eccentric hipster basketball player with a personal ATM machine in his kitchen. [ more › ]
