Red Bulls Close At Home With Gutsy Draw, Punch Playoff Ticket For the third year in a row, the New York Red Bulls are headed to the post-season. In their last home game of the 2012 season, RBNY battered the visiting Sporting Kansas City with a high pressure, high intensity attack. The game ended a 0-0 draw, but the result - combined with DC's victory over Columbus - was good enough to ensure a playoff berth for the Red Bulls. [ more › ]

82-Year-Old Sues Trader Joe's After Getting Hit By Can Of Tuna In what has to be the single most Upper West Side lawsuit in history, an 82-year-old grandmother is suing Trader Joe's after she was whacked in the head by a can of tuna. And for her trauma, she is seeking a mere $350,000 in damages. So much for Trader Joe's employees being too friendly. [ more › ]

Videos: Saturday Night Live Welcomes Stefon, Tom Hanks, And Creepy Brad Pitt

Bruno Mars pulled double duty as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night. Sure, he was no Louis C.K., but he definitely exceeded low expectations and did a fine job, even if he relied on musical-related sketches a bit too much. It ended up being one of the better episodes this season, with the biggest highlights the cold open about the second presidential debate, two Tom Hanks cameos, a series of creepy Brad Pitt commercials, and the hilarious return of Stefon. Pregnant Brooklyn Woman Killed Day Before Wedding Had Gotten Death Threats Yesterday morning, an 8 1/2 months pregnant Brooklyn woman was found fatally stabbed in the neck inside her Brownsville apartment, the day before her wedding was to take place. Vindalee Smith, 38, was pronounced dead in her home on East 94th Street around 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Smith, a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, had previously received death threats from a former neighbor: “She had some issues with some people in the past who had actually threatened to kill her and her entire family,” her pastor Ferron Francis, of the New Dimension Church, told the Post. Bloomberg Disses Obama & Romney, Says Tax Plans "Are Not Real" Last week Mayor Bloomberg introduced the creation of his own Super PAC as a way to goad politicians into taking favorable positions on issues like gay marriage, gun control, and obesity, using the only tool that he and other politicians understand: money. The mayor plans to donate around $15 million this cycle to Republicans and Democrats through his Super PAC. But don't look for him to chip in for either presidential campaign. "Their economic plans are not real. I think that's clear," Bloomberg told the Times. So which one is the turd sandwich and which one is the giant douche? [ more › ]

Red Skeleton Mask-Wearing Perp Goes On Brooklyn Robbery Spree We're used to a certain flashy standard when it comes to our best bank robbers—the Darth Vaders and Bouquet Bandits are practically legendary at this point. So even if the red skeleton mask-wearing robber who went on a Brooklyn bank robbery spree this week doesn't quite live up to those sartorial standards, at least he made up for it in pure enthusiasm: “Trick or treat, give up the cash or I will kill you, bitch motherf--ker,” he allegedly told one bank teller. PSA: It Is 100% Legal To Film The Police (Or Anything Else) In Public Regardless of what various shoe-lickers or rat caretakers will tell you, photographing anything that is in public view—including federal buildings and the police—is 100% legal. We were reminded of this by watching this video from photographer Javier Soriano, who was in the 103rd Street subway station in Harlem videotaping officers detaining a man. Two bystanders accost Soriano for filming, and one smacks his camera out of his hand, threatening to beat him if he continues to film. [ more › ]

Yesterday marked the return of our favorite holiday-related animal costume parade of the year: the 22nd annual Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade. While last year's event was full of OWS-related protest pooches, meat-dress clad Lady Gagas and even a dog dressed as Dave Mustane of Megadeth, we had quite a different array of costumes this year, including Mutt Romney, Evita, an ET homage, and...a dog with a face on its butt. One of his favorites: "Located on the Lower-Upper Side, this random home invasion is a creation of legally drunk clothing designer Nick Nolte and Gabbana. As you walk in, you'll be handed a glass of champagne. Or is it piss? Needless to say, this place has everything: slurpees, mushmouths, litterbugs. And don't worry about security, because it's guarded by an army of hobocops...Homeless Robocops." [Eater National]

Employees Claim DUMBO's River Cafe Is Very Anti-Semitic A current and former employee of DUMBO's River Cafe have lobbed some damning accusations at them in the NY Post today. According to the employees, the River Cafe actively discriminates against orthodox Jews (and less controversially, sweatpants aficionados) by using a series of code words to identify them. And they claim that "a minimum of $25 will be enforced that is just for Jews wearing yarmulkes or any sort of religious hat." [ more › ]
